Under the spotlight, adoration can begin to resemble worship. Ribbons rise like blessings, countless hands reach upward, and a performer becomes something larger than themself.
Yet fame is rarely held in only one light. With the slightest shift, celebration catches fire. The ribbons become flames that engulf them. The hand that once held the microphone now reaches out in desperation, but the hands of the audience have already fallen away.
The admirers remain, no longer participants but witnesses. The same light that once made the performer radiant begins to consume them.
Perhaps fame and infamy are not true opposites. Perhaps they are two images held within the same gaze, waiting only for the angle to change.

I had the honor of creating the cover for @frictionseries F(r)ictionβs FAME / INFAMY issue last year. It went to print earlier this yearπ
The final cover uses lenticular printing, combining both versions of the artwork so the image transforms as you tilt it or move past it. One moment is luminous, glamorous, and filled with adoration. The next is overtaken by red, distortion, and something far more sinister. I love how the physical format became part of the storytelling itself, allowing a small shift in perspective to reveal an entirely different reality.
While creating this piece, we kept returning to the idea that fame and infamy can be shaped by the same attention, the same audience, and the same spotlight. What changes is the story being projected onto the person at its center. To be seen by everyone is not necessarily to be known, and admiration can sometimes exist frighteningly close to destruction.
Seeing the finished cover change in my hands made me incredibly exciting! The lenticular effect feels so special and so perfectly suited to this theme.β€οΈβπ₯
